What Awaits Our Businesses? Technology We Could See In Our Office In The Next 20 Years

Office technology has gone from typewriters up until the ‘80s, bulky standard computers up until the ‘00s, to slim line screens and laptops and a rapid increase in smaller technology such as iPads and Kindles in modern day offices.Printers and telephones have improved and become more convenient to us at work. However, there are plenty more technologies that have begun to die out such as fax machines - that have died out due to the introduction of the email.

Modern day technology is satisfying to the majority of us. It is simple, easy to use and gets the job done.
But how will technology develop in the next 20 years to benefit us even more? There are numerous plans and predictions already in place that will hopefully take the office world by storm!

Office Drones

Office drones will be miniscule moving ‘insect like’ detection equipment  installed with cameras and motion detectors that will move up and down workplace corridors and rooms.This feature will have the ability to be the ‘eyes and ears’ of the office and warn employees of any clients that may be walking in or any action happening in the building. Bigger drones will be installed with live video action. This will allow for bosses and clients to tune in remotely and speak to the company virtually.

Sensors

Employees will be given name badges that are installed with small sensors that can keep track of the behavior of each employee and the pace they are working at. The sensors will also be able to detect when an employee is struggling or feeling uncomfortable, therefore indicating that there may need to be new layouts to the office or new furniture.These sensors will be a perfect way to make changes and improvements.

Roaming Robots

A segway-like robot that will be installed with a screen and a video system. The point of this robot is to be electronically directed around the office through the control of an iPad. The roaming robot will act as a remote control person, probably the boss or manager of the company. This will mean that the boss can stay sat wherever he/she needs to be and still make rounds around the workplace.

Motion Detection Computers

Presentation slides in meetings can be a pain when the computer freezes and you have to keep turning back to the mouse to control it. To make meetings run smoother, future technology promises a motion detection screen that moves slides along with just a gesture. You will be able to make use of multiple walls in room that the screen can be projected onto.

Roll Top Laptops

A roll top laptop will be a Tech gadget designed mainly for the use of architects and designers who need to carry their work around with them. Roll top laptops will have a multitouch screen and will weigh the same as a notebook laptop. It will roll up and out without breaking or cracking because of the OLED features in the screen.

Architecture Tablet Table

An Architecture Tablet Table will be a tablet that will scan over 2D designs from paper and convert the design layout into a 3D visualization. It will ‘pop up’ your design in just a matter of moments. You will then be able to search through the building design by swiping through the image.

Tablet Display Glass

The Tablet Display Glass is essentially a big glass board that works as a computer device to slide around plans and ideas. It will be multitouch and come in the form of a table that can be interacted with.

iWatch

iWatch is rumored to be in the development stages at Apple and will be produced to be the watch equivalent of a smart phone. It will be a watch made of flexible glass making it transparent. The features it is said to include are a visual voice mail system, weather updates, health monitoring devices and a map with directions.

Transparent Windows Phone

This technology will provide a paper thin transparent mobile phone that is fully protected from water and heat. It will recognize different gestures and movements. There will be a feature that senses when you blow on the screen, this will bring up the text message function.

Smartpen Translator

To instantly translate your language to another, the smart pen will track the words you write and give you the translation and how you can spell it. The pen uses its computerized voice to say out the word you need.
If you are reading from a foreign book or notepad, you can underline the word you want to translate and the pen will again, speak out the translation.

Omnidirectional Camera

Instead of our standard cameras that take pictures head on from one angle, this camera will take photographs and videos from all angles and come together as a spherical panoramic shot.

Intelligent Agents

This will be a computer program available to install on your PC device that will remind you of any events and meetings you will need to attend. It will make phone calls for you and send emails for you while you get on with the work you need to do.It will collect data from your own drive or from any other places that you might need data from. It will work as an advanced version of Apple’s Siri device.

Our Offices will advance in many different ways within the next 20 years. It is hard to decipher whether these developments in technology will benefit us for the better or end up where we do nothing for ourselves whatsoever.
