It was reported last month that Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 had an
overheating issue when it is working at peak frequencies. The issue was said to
cause delay in shipment of devices depending on it. Qualcomm clearly denied the
issue and said it’s a false report and everything is fine, and after that
stayed tight lipped about the existence of the issue. It has now been reported
that this issue has been finally fixed and the production of the chips will be
ramped up next month.
Qualcomm also said that an important customer has turned down
Snapdragon 810 and will not use the chip for its flagship. It was believed that
they were talking about Samsung which is now using its Exynos processor for its
Galaxy S6 but the company says it is a business decision not because of
Snapdragon 810 overheating issue. However, there is still a good chance that
Samsung Galaxy S6 might come with Snapdragon 810 but it will only be limited to
few markets and most of the markets will receive Exynos powers Galaxy S6
devices.
