Protecting Your Data During Power Loss With Intel PLI Technology

When a system with an SSD is shutdown normally, The ATA STANDBY IMMEDIATE command is transmitted to the SSD,letting it know to prepare for shutdown. This command gives the SSD the ability to save the data that is in-flight at that moment. During an unsafe shutdown, such as a power outage, the SSD does not receive the ATA STANDBY IMMEDIATE command causing in-flight data to be lost. Some SSDs are protected from sudden power loss by a feature called Power Loss Imminent ( PLI ) Technology. The SSDs know when power is going to be lost by using voltage detector circuits that constantly monitor the supply voltage. If the power is lost, the SSD automatically switches to the backup energy stored in special capacitors and writes the “in- flight” data to the NAND flash media. This PLI technology secure your data from accidental power losses. PLI is the key for your Solid data integrity. The Intel SSDs which features the PLI technology are as follows:
  • Intel SSD DC  S3500 Series ( with 6Gb/s SATA interfaces ).
  • Intel SSD 910 Series ( with PCle* interface ).
