Google Launching Street View For 100 Monuments In India

Google Street view project is expanding day by day. This time Google Street View team managed to explore India and decided to launch its Street view for over 100 monuments that people will be able to visit them virtually through their PCs. Street view will only be limited to 100 monuments , regular roads and localities will not be visible. Google collaborated with Indian Ministry of Culture and Archeological Survey of India to convert 100 popular monuments into 360 degree virtually viewed structures from PCs. Some of these monuments includes Taj Mahal, The Ajanta , Ellora caves , Qutub minar and many more. Some of the monuments were searched though Google Trekker , which is backpack that has a camera attached to it , basically designed for places where vehicles can’t move in. Places that has been captured by Google’s Trekker includes Mount Fuji , the Galapagos islands, the street of Venice and Grand Canyon.

Google Street View Available in India

In one of the statement provided to Mashable, Google said,

"Google’s mission is to make information more accessible, and around the world Google is constantly looking for new ways to tell the stories of the world’s diverse cultures and make them available worldwide.Google hopes to help make more of India’s heritage accessible to people around the world, and to help preserve India’s unique history for generations to come."

Pravin Srivastava, director general of the archaeological survey, said in a statement,

“We believe that the new panoramic imagery of 100 Indian monuments will not only allow people to interact with our country’s culture in new ways, but also digitally preserve India’s heritage for future generations,”

This attempt of Google bringing Street View in India is not the first time .In 2011 , Google brought its Street View cars and system to map Bangalore but the project ran into hurdles due to some reasons, but now this project has came into reality and now upto 100 monuments in India can be viewed through Google Street View. This step from Google and collaboration with Indian Ministry of Agriculture, Indian monuments will become valuable not only in India but across the world. Indian people who are living abroad can also view these monuments and recall their memorable time which they have spent in India with thier relatives or friends near these monuments.

Famous places and structures around the world which are included in Google’s Street View are Eiffel Tower, Burj Khalifa, Mt Fuji and even some of the highest peaks of the world including Everest Base Camp.
