Google Accounts Security Enhanced with Physical USB Security Key

USB Security Key

Google just made two-factor authentication implementation easier and safer with the support of security Key. Using this key, people who have sensitive data on their Google accounts and are concerned about the security of their accounts can buy a Physical USB Security Key from a Third-party vendor which they can use to access their Chrome, Gmail or any other Google account. This verification set up is quite easy, If you have Two-factor authentication enabled you can go to a vendor of your choice and buy the above mentioned USB Security Key. You can just plug the USB in your system and when prompted, you can press the button located on the USB itself and you are done. I don’t think it can get any easier than this.

The USB will only work when it verifies that the site you are trying to log in is a Google site. This makes sure you don’t become a victim of phishing attempts. As the device uses FIDO Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) protocol, it can also be used to access other sites which support the protocol but need to use Chrome to do so. The service is totally free, though you will still have to buy the USB Security Key on your own from a vendor. The USB cost about $5 to $50 depending on your choice. And this service can only be availed while accessing accounts from your PC. While accessing accounts through your Smartphone you will need to stick to the standard way.
