Apple‘s Deal with GT Advanced Technologies for creating
Sapphire displays for Apple’s iPhone 6 didn’t pan out right. And GT Advanced
Technologies Canceled the deal when it was unable to fulfill needs of Apple.
One of Fatal mistakes Apple won’t be repeating in the future. Just a week ago,
a news came out that Apple is asking its longtime partner Foxconn to build an
exclusive Manufacturing plant just for Apple for its displays. However, Foxconn
didn’t say much about the plant, but it was confirmed that the Plant was being
made for Apple to further enhance Apple Foxconn relation.
Just one week later, we are again hearing news that Apple is
again reaching towards Foxconn. And now Foxconn is being asked to make Sapphire
crystal glass for Apple in a quantity that Apple could use for its next
generation iPhone. The Foxconn Company has made an agreement that they will
create a 133 hectare Sapphire factory to fulfill this need. Now the interesting
part is, even though Apple and Foxconn are partners for quite a long time, but
still Foxconn has no experience in producing Sapphire. Meaning, if the rumor is
right it would be interesting to see how Foxconn will manage to create enough
Sapphire displays that could fulfill huge need of Apple which even GT Advanced
Technologies with some experience in the field couldn’t handle. It says that GT
Advanced was only able to make enough Sapphire displays that could fulfill 10%
of Apple’s total order.
