Now people with Disabilities can interact with Computer through eye tracking using Samsung’s Eyecan+

Samsung Eyecan

Samsung has introduced Eyecan+ after its introduction of Eyecan which worked as a mouse replacement. Eyecan+ can enable people with disabilities to browse the web, type and perform other functions with just the movement of their eyes. Samsung Eyecan was a device which people had to wear in order to work, but Samsung Eyecan+ doesn't require the user to wear it as it uses a tracker sitting below the monitor to track the movement of the user’s eyes. The device comes with total 18 commands, including “select all,”  “copy,” “paste,” as well as “drag and drop,” “zoom in” and “scroll.” Additionally, some commands can also be customized that include existing keystroke commands, like “print” (“Ctrl+P”) and “close program” (“Alt+F4”).

The device can be used both ways, seated and while lying down so the user will not have to make some special posture to use the device. However, they will need to be in the range of 60-70cm near monitor. There are no plans of commercializing Eyecan+ by Samsung. Although, Samsung did mention they will make a limited number of devices which they will donate to charity organizations. They will also open source the design of the Eyecan and Eyecan+, that will help other companies and organizations to commercialize the device if they wish to.
