Comcast got sued for using customers’ routers as Public hotspot

Comcast decided to turn its customers’ wireless routers into Public hotspot, but it actually made things even worse for them self. Some disgruntled customers have sued Comcast for exploiting them and other Comcast subscribers. They claim that Comcast is turning their residential routers into public hotspots to serve double duty without the consent of the subscriber and also at expense to earn profit. The newer routers provided by Comcast to customers included double role, along with a standard router, it also worked as a Public Hotspot. However, for those people who provided their own hardware are not affected by this.

In the suit, it is stated that routers being used as a public hotspot consume 30-40% more electricity in heavy use. It is also stated that with such use it can lead to tens of millions of dollars on electricity bills every month in future. It is believed that when customers’ Wi-Fi is used a Public Hotspot it also raises security concerns. Furthermore, they stated that ever since the second channel has been activated they are receiving inadequate speeds on their Wi-Fi network at home.
