Yes, Samsung did try to get into instant messaging service
world in their own style with their own messaging service called Samsung
ChatOn. However, we should remember that companies also make mistakes from time
to time and ChatOn is one of Samsung’s mistakes. For the past few weeks there
have been some rumors regarding Samsung shutting down their instant messaging
service ChatOn. According to the Wall Street Journal it has now been confirmed
that ChatOn is being officially shut down. The official date of it shut down is
set for February 1st, 2015. Of course, exceptions are everywhere and
Samsung ChatOn is no different as even though it is being shut down in
February, people from U.S will still be able to use it till March 2015.
The reason Samsung gave for shutting down its ChatOn service
is “fast-changing market environment”. With the help of this move Samsung will
be able to focus more on it Mobile commerce and Health sectors. The shut down
of ChatOn should not make that much of an impact as there are quite few user of
it as compared to other instant messaging services.
