For Android Google is the default Search engine just like
Bing is default Search engine for Windows Phones. It is their product so it is
their right to actually power their platform with their own search engine.
However, it seems Yandex doesn’t agree with it and is actually quite unhappy
about it. Yandex has filed an Antitrust complain again Google saying that they
are violating Russia’s antitrust laws. Ochir Mandzhikov, Yandex Spokesperson
said “We believe that device manufacturers should have a choice as to which
search provider to set as the default or which services to have preinstalled on
the device. Google should not prevent manufacturers from preinstalling
competitor apps.”
Yandex also added that Google services and Search engine
should be removed from Android, saying “This is why we are talking about the
need to unbundle Google’s Android operating system from Google Search and its
other end-user services.” The might have
a valid point as a competitors but when it comes to user experience this will
be affected. People come to android for all the Google services they get on one
platform and if that is lost there is no point of having a android phone. Also
People actually like Google services, they are not being forced to use the
services.
