The “Nuro” is now available to homes, apartments and small business in Tokyo and six surrounding prefectures. The downloading speed of the internet is recorded to be 2GBps and upload speed as 1GBps. Nuro Internet offers a two year contract which will cost AY = 4,980 or $51 per month. It charge its installation fee of about AY = 52,500 but this installation fee will be waved for those who apply online. This service also includes the rental service of ONJ ( Optical Network Unit) which is used for handling high speed internet. ONJ devices are basically used to convert Fiber to Broadband internet, Without this unit individual users might not be able to experience the high speed internet because their regular network adaptors are not capable to provide fast speed internet. So-net said its service uses the GPON, or Gigabit-capable Passive Optics Networks, standard, which supports up to 2.488gbps downstream.

Japanese government has allowed the fiber connection to most of the residencies so that people can access fast speed internet in their homes. It is estimated that 25% of the Japanese households are currently connected to the internet which is the second highest rate in the world after UAE according to the FTTH ( Fiber To Home Organizations ). One of the reason to introduce fiber based home internet in Japan is its tightly packed streets and apartments . Like in Tokyo and other cities the houses and apartments are very small and packed so its easy to carry out fiber internet.
