Internet In Syria Is Restored After 19-Hour Blackout

Syrian Internet appears to be restored after a long blackout of 19 hours. Internet was cut-off by the Syrian government due to some activities of the opponents so to destroy their planning Syrian government ordered to shutdown the internet.Google also released their data showing dramatic change in their traffic from Syria. US web companies also revealed a major drop in traffic from Syria  The immediate drop in the internet traffic from Syria was reported as a fault in optical fiber cables before , but it was obvious that due to one cable the whole internet in Syria cannot be cut-off.

This is not the first time that Syria is facing this blackout. Last November also Syrian internet was shutdown for three days due to the same reason. The government has been fighting this internal conflict since two years and blamed the main reason on “Terrorist”. The previous shutdown was made because it was suggested by the activists that opponents we planning a major offense. But both of these theories were not true. During the black-out mobile phones and landlines were working normally. Internet restored in Syria

A digital rights campaign group, the Electronic Frontier Foundation has reported that Internet has been a vital resource for activists in the country. Internet has served as an important window connecting Syria to the outer world , which means that outsiders could connect very easily through satellite. Last year, a malware was targeted to Syrian activists through Skype. Hackers often hijack twitter accounts to spread propaganda and false news. The Egyptian government of Hosni Mubarak also performed the same step in back January 2011 when the levels of protest in the country were gone severe, but there was no satisfying results.
