The London Underground Tube network is one of the easiest and convenient public metro system which serves a large part of Greater London and parts of the counties of Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex. If you live in London than you might know that London Underground has decided to close some of its underground tube stations in order to pay for 24-hour operational stations on major lines. Those opened stations on major lines will be equipped with the latest technology that includes contactless bank card payment technology from next year, extended Wi-Fi coverage at some selected underground stations, improved ticket machines, and staff removed from the ticket offices to be based in ticket halls and on platforms. So what about will happen to the closed ticket stations? Amazon is in talks with LU ( London Underground ) to occupy those closed Ticket stations and convert them to Amazons Pick up points , so that Londoners could be able to pick up thier books, gadgets , and other online shopping packages.
ASDA which is a British supermarket retail store has also stuck a deal with LU to use these under ground train station for customer to pick up thier groceries. The supermarket said it will help customer who want to shop online but are not at home during the day to accept the deliveries.
Amazon and Asda both are in contact with LU to make some decision and make a final deal. Lets see what LU will decide because both the options are in favor of London Underground.
When London Underground announced the news of All-night Tube services yesterday, it received a lot of controversies . Shutting down of Ticket stations would cut 750 jobs at London Underground which will be replaced by electronic machines using latest technologies. LU's current staff totals 18,000, which includes 5,500 station staff.
General Secretary Bob Crow said,
“No matter how this is dressed up by Boris Johnson and his officials, today's announcement is all about slashing almost £250million from the annual London transport budget and the proposed cuts will decimate staffing levels and hit the most vulnerable users of tube services the hardest.”
London underground said that by year 2015 , people would be able to take the tube anytime they want even at any hour of the night including Fridays and Saturday. Weekends services will run through Victoria, Central and Jubilee lines and parts of the Northern line. This will definitely upgrade the tube system to the next level.
Mr Johnson said,
“For 150 years the Tube has been the beating heart of London, its tunnels and tracks providing the arteries that have transported millions of people and helped to drive the development and economic growth of our great city. Now it is time to take the Tube to the next level and so for the first time in London's history, we will provide a regular 24-hour Night Tube service at weekends. This will not just boost jobs and our vibrant night-time economy, it will further cement London's reputation as the best big city on the planet to in which to live, work, visit and invest.”
The decision of what LU will decide with the closed ticket station will be announced soon , Londoners will be either picking up thier Amazon packages or Asda Groceries. We will keep you update if we get any latest information from London underground.
