Meet Foursquare New Brother App Swarm

Do you still remember Foursquare, an application launched in 2009 which allows users to share location through check-in via app , just same like location check-in which we use in our smartphones on Facebook. At its initial launch, Foursquare app gathered around millions of users and numerous locations were checked-in using the application. But it didn't last longer, lemme ask you how many of you still use Foursquare? The answer would be very less people or even none. The landscape has changed now since back in 2009, now majority people use Facebook locations sharing. Foursquare CEO today Dennis Crowley has taken a step further with a new creative idea and decided to breakup Foursquare into two separate apps. One will be used to share locations and other to explore new places.

Foursqaure app breaks into to seperate applcations

Isn't the idea great, lets talk about it more. The app named as Swarm will be a brother app of Foursquare which will be used to share locations using maps. The swarm app will be developed from the ground to provide social heat map to users and vast database of locations. The official Foursquare app will named same but with different functionality. Have you guys used yelp to explore different interesting places around you, Yes !! Foursquare will now be used same as Yelp which will allow users to explore new and interesting places around users locations. It might become Yelp rival but lets see how Foursquare application is re-built from ground to provide best experience to users in discovering new places.

Both the applications are in the development stage and there are no released dates exposed from the company, however Swarm and Foursquare will be released soon. For the time being check out the new Swarm website.
