Apple’s Touch ID is Now Supported by Dropbox iOS App

Dropbox

Now the users of DropBox with sensitive data stored on their iPhone 5S and above or iPad can get an extra layer of protection with just a fingerprint. Dropbox updated its iOS app and now it can support Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor. This means that iPhone users with iPhone 5S and above running iOS 8 can now protect their data from hackers easily. It will also work for people who just bought iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3.

How to protect your Data using Touch ID
  • Set up Touch ID on the device you are using.
  • Then you will have to update the iOS app for Dropbox to its latest version therefore version 3.5. In the app, tap on settings located at the bottom of the screen.
  • Go to the passcode lock settings and in the Passcode lock screen turn it on. You will be asked to enter a 4-digit passcode, you can enter the desired passcode and then retype it.
  • Right there in the Passcode screen you can turn Touch ID on. Just restart the Dropbox app and it will ask for a Fingerprint or Passcode to unlock.

Now the question is why go to another security system if it is already protected by Dropbox? Well, this actually adds another layer to protect your data and many other iOS apps are doing the same. This concern also might have raised due the security issue happened recently with Dropbox. Hackers claimed that they have stolen 7 million Dropbox users log in information and threaten that they will release the details if they are not paid a ransom. Though Dropbox claimed that their system is not hacked, they stole data from third party services and gain access.

But whatever the reason is it is better to be safe than sorry. You can now have an extra layer of security for your iPhone or iPad to make sure your precious data is safe.
