Google is conducting Project Loon’s tests in Australia

Google’s dream of providing internet to people who are disconnected is showing some positive results. The Project known as Loon in which Google is trying to use Balloons to provide internet to areas which are lacking internet have been through some tests. With some semi-successful tests in Brazil, New Zealand and the US, Google is doing its biggest project Loon tests in Australia by partnering with one of Australia’s Local carrier Telstra.

In project Loon, a network is created in stratosphere using balloons. Balloons are scattered all over the stratosphere that provide data in the form of LTE. From Base station the signal is sent to the first balloon near the Base station over 12 miles above the ground. After that, the balloon sends that signal to other balloons and a network is created which transmits data in more range than that of the base station. One balloon can cover up to 600 square miles of area. The main goal of the project is to cover the face of the earth with these balloons so they could circulate and provide internet access to areas where there is no internet connection. The trail in Australia consists of total 20 balloons and it is the first time Google is testing with 20 balloons. Yes, it is still quite small test, but these tests are very important to achieve the desired results.
