Google signed a 10-year Patent License Agreement with LG

Patent license agreement

Google and LG just signed a 10-year Patent license agreement, which will let both companies use other company’s patents for the next 10 years. This will involve all patents filed by both companies over the course of 10 years.  Though we still don’t know the exact reason why they signed it and neither of companies commented on this. However, Companies did mention that this agreement is for long-standing strong alliance and this will help both companies to focus on bringing new and improved products and services for all the customers. It seems that the reason why they signed this Patent license agreement could be the patent disputes which are quite time-consuming and become a hurdle for both companies from focusing only on technology. With this agreement both companies will not be able to sue each for any patent infringement for the next 10 years. This will help them focus on developing technology without any worries about expensive Lawsuits.  As both companies have tons of software-related patents for Android smartphones and other products this agreement will help both companies a lot.

We still have no clue if it is a friendly and helpful deal or one of the companies is paying for it. Google also has the same Patent License agreement with Samsung for 10 years, which is also going to help both companies to focus on developing better technology for their customers.
