LG Opted For Snapdragon 808 In Latest G4 Due to Low cost

The LG G4 has just been formally unveiled to the masses, boasting a super distinct 5.5-inch Quad Hd IPS Quantum screen, 3GB of RAM, and… a Snapdragon 808 processor. That’s right, LG opted against utilizing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor in its new smartphone  though the reasoning behind that decision might not be what you are thinking.

lg g4 snapdragon

The Snapdragon 810 processor has gotten off to a very rough begin because of its announcement a couple of months in the past. Reviews of smartphones overheating due to the chip have been running rampant through the entire web, and Samsung even determined against utilizing the chip in the new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge handsets. So why did LG decide to make use of the 808 within the G4, instead of going with the (supposedly) larger and much better 810?

Whilst McDonough says each chips are “very a lot reduce in the exact same cloth”, the 810 features 8 cores, and the 808 only has six. The 810 also has much more ultra-HD video clip abilities and has an Adreno 430 GPU, instead of the Adreno 418 GPU discovered within the 808.

Based on CNET, McDonough states LG’s decision had a great deal to do with cost, as well. The 810 could be available first, so it was a no-brainer that LG would come with the SoC in the G Flex 2. The 808 took a little more time for you to make its method to market, which meant LG could select between the 2 processors. In the end, the decision to go along with the 808 within the G4 came right down to production costs (the 808 is cheaper), and the fact that the G4 could be the first cellular gadget to start with the chipset.

LG Working on New Octacore 64-Bit Chipset (Rumored)

LG

Samsung is going to use its own Exynos chipset for its upcoming Flagship with out relying on other companies for processors and now it seems LG wants to do the same. LG is not new to this however, as last year they offered NUCLUN chipset in their LG G3 Screen which was released only in South Korea. However, the chipset was not a success due to overheating issue and led to decrease in sales of the handset. The chipset was never issue again to any other device leading to complete shutdown of it. But this doesn’t mean LG will never make another chipset in future. It has been rumored that LG is working on an Octacore 64-Bit Chipset that will compete straight against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810.

The Chipset will be ARMv8 based and will come with four Cortex-A53 and four Cortex-A7w cores. These chipset will be manufactured by TSMC on its 20nm process for LG. There is no information on what kind of GPU will be used with this processor but many expect it to be Mali one, but there is no confirmation.

Qualcomm Might Get Sued By LG for Making Samsung Its Favorite (Rumor)

Qualcomm Snapdragon 810

If you remember from an earlier rumor that claimed that Qualcomm might be working on a modified version of Snapdragon 810 chipset specifically for Samsung to solve its overheating issue. Well, according to a report from Korea LG didn’t like this move and might even sue Qualcomm if they will provide a modified version of Snapdragon 810 chipset to Samsung. Interesting part is that, as claimed by a rumor LG didn’t face any kind of overheating issue with the regular Snapdragon 810 and is still against the decision. However, it does make sense to some extent as the current LG G Flex 2 is running the regular Snapdragon 810, so if Samsung gets a modified version this can lead to playing favorites.

We should keep in mind that all this comes from different rumors and nothing is official, so there is a good chance that all this didn’t even happen. Samsung is also using its Exynos chipset instead of Snapdragon 810 and a rumor suggests it's not because of the overheating issue but to promote their chipset.

According to a report LG G3 exploded and burned a hole through the mattress

LG G3

Over the course of the year we have heard many stories regarding exploding phones, and it seems just as year is about to end, another one popped up. This time the spotlight is on LG G3. It was posted on Reddit by OP that the LG G3 owned by his sister was charging on the bed and while she was away it exploded suddenly. There was so much heat and the explosion was so much powerful that it burnt a hole through the mattress it was lying on. Good thing no one got hurt during the whole process. Yes, you guys must be thinking they must have used third-party battery or charger or maybe it was charging under the pillow. However, according to OP he says nothing happened like that and phone was normally lying on the bed and everything was original. This only means that, it was just an accident. Of course, this can happen as LG is producing millions of phones and there is a tiny chance that one of the phones could slip past the quality control.

OP said they have tried to reach LG using different social media sources and are waiting to see what LG will do about it. LG haven’t spoken on the matter yet but hopefully we will hear from them soon.

Google signed a 10-year Patent License Agreement with LG

Patent license agreement

Google and LG just signed a 10-year Patent license agreement, which will let both companies use other company’s patents for the next 10 years. This will involve all patents filed by both companies over the course of 10 years.  Though we still don’t know the exact reason why they signed it and neither of companies commented on this. However, Companies did mention that this agreement is for long-standing strong alliance and this will help both companies to focus on bringing new and improved products and services for all the customers. It seems that the reason why they signed this Patent license agreement could be the patent disputes which are quite time-consuming and become a hurdle for both companies from focusing only on technology. With this agreement both companies will not be able to sue each for any patent infringement for the next 10 years. This will help them focus on developing technology without any worries about expensive Lawsuits.  As both companies have tons of software-related patents for Android smartphones and other products this agreement will help both companies a lot.

We still have no clue if it is a friendly and helpful deal or one of the companies is paying for it. Google also has the same Patent License agreement with Samsung for 10 years, which is also going to help both companies to focus on developing better technology for their customers.
