It can be quite worrisome for people with young children
that whether internet is safe or not for their children. Yes, it is definitely
a thing to consider as typing anything in search bar can lead to any type of
results, even the unsavory ones. Well, for all those parents who don’t actually
have a dedicated parental monitoring tool installed, Microsoft is taking care
of that issue with Bing. Microsoft has recently announced that Bing will adopt
a “Safe Preference” feature making it the first Search engine to adopt such web
safety standard. This will provide users the ability to set safety preference
according to their requirement and Websites and search engines will display
content according to the safety preference set.
According to Microsoft “We realize that controlling your
children’s safety settings can be challenging. With so many devices, browsers
and search engines, you usually have to go to multiple pages to turn on safe
search on their behalf. The safe
preference method is designed to make controls easier and more consistent for
parents. It offers one standardized way for users to communicate their safe
preferences to websites and online services.”
Currently only Firefox and Internet Explorer 10+ are
supporting Safe Preference feature, so the users will have to use one of these
browsers to use the feature. Using one of the compatible browsers, parents will
have to enable Windows Family Safety for their Child’s account to enable this
feature.
