It is true that it is almost impossible to make your smartphone unbreakable, but still companies such as Corning always strive to minimize damage as much as possible. Their Gorilla Glass product is currently being used my almost all major electronic manufacturers to help get resistance from scratches on screen. With the introduction of Corning’s fourth Generation Glass, their focus is less on scratch resistance and more on Drop protection. Now the Gorilla Glass 4 is stronger and specifically resistant against drops on hard surfaces such as concrete. The tests show that the new Gorilla Glass 4 is Two times stronger than Gorilla Glass 3 when it was dropped from a height of one meter. Cliff Hund the vice president of East Asia Corning said that they still can’t make it immune to breaks, but still they have made it strong enough to survive quite a lot. The executive said, it is true Sapphire is the best way to protect against visible scratches but as can be seen by Apple and GT Advanced Technologies sour deal, it is very hard to produce enough quantity to cover millions of smartphones.
The company also said that no compromises were made in the
production of Gorilla glass 4 in
order to improve its strength and it still provides a same clear view as
before. Gorilla Glass 4 is being shipped to manufacturers currently and should
be available in the coming handsets.
